Dhanush, a prominent figure in Tamil cinema, began his acting career in 2002 with the film Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by his father Kasthuri Raja. He gained critical acclaim for his portrayal of a mentally disturbed youth in his brother Selvaraghavan's directorial debut, Kadhal Konden, in 2003. While initially experiencing a mix of successes and box office disappointments, Dhanush's career took off with the commercial success of Thiruda Thirudi (2003) and later with critically acclaimed and commercially successful films like Polladhavan (2007) and Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008). He has since become a highly sought-after actor, known for his versatility and talent, venturing into Bollywood with Raanjhanaa (2013) and even making international appearances in films like The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir and The Gray Man. He is also a National Award winner, having received the Best Actor award twice for his performances in Aadukalam (2011) and Asuran (2019).
